Missed lesson

Missed lessons: it is your responsibility to catch up with the work before the next lesson. This is in the school rules. It is also really important if you want to have all the work for tests. You will not get any sympathy or test concessions if you do not catch up as the resources are here !

362 SepSeparating Mixtures - salt and sand
  • How to carry out the following:
    dissolving, filtering, evaporating
  • Identifying the properties of different substances which allow them to be separated from a mixture.
  •  Using the solubility of salt in water (and insolubility of sand) to separate a mixture.
  •  Use the appropriate apparatus to safely produce pure salt.
  •  To draw scientific diagrams of each part of the process
dissolve
filter
evaporate
Draw the 2-D diagrams of the three steps of our experiment in to your notebook.
379 SepChecking results from the previous lesson.

Distillation
  • Separating liquids
  • Drawing a scientific diagram of a complicated arrangement of apparatus

3816 SepWhat colour is spinach?
You are to plan an experiment using techniques and equipment which you have been using in order to find out what colours green spinach contains.

Write down your hypothesis on the task sheet.
First pages of the Writing frame Draw 2-D diagram of the experiment on the task sheet.
3923 SepWriting the rest of the report.writing frameNo homework if you finished your report during the lesson.
Few students have some parts of the report as a homework.
4030 SepPure substances and mixtures
  • Difference between pure substance and mixture
  • Homogeneous mixture = different compounds aren't visible to the eye
  • Heterogeneous mixture = different compounds are often visible to the eye
