Missed lesson

Missed lessons: it is your responsibility to catch up with the work before the next lesson. This is in the school rules. It is also really important if you want to have all the work for tests. You will not get any sympathy or test concessions if you do not catch up as the resources are here !

By the end of the lesson you should

  • be able to explain what an ion is
  • identify cations and anions
  • work out simple formulae for ionic compounds

Week 13 Grade 8 Chemistry
Wednesday March 25th 8.15-9.45 and 12.30-14.00

By the end of the lesson you should

  • identify reactivity patterns in the Periodic Table in the main groups (alkali metals, halogens and noble gases)
  • explain the reactivity in terms of the electrons in the outer shell

First watch this video:
Periodic Table video on reactivity   It is a bit old and corny, based on the tv show 'Blind Date' but really gets the ideas across

Then watch this tutorial video.

Video showing the reaction of chlorine and sodium

Attendance confirmation form link - you must complete this by the end of the day.

Homework task - to be completed before Wednesday 1st April.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Work for Wednesday 18 March, both grade 8 classes.

The Periodic Table and Reactivity

In this lesson you will learn about patterns in the arrangement of the Periodic Table and how they relate to the elements in each Group (column) and Row (period).

You will need your notebook, and a copy of the Periodic Table. If you have a printer, here is a copy.

Start watching this: Tutorial Video
Ferocious elements video
Alkali metals reactivity
The Periodic Table Song - new, with all the elements in the correct order
The Elements Song - the old fashioned one, from 1967

Learning check task  This is due before your lesson next week.

If you haven't yet returned your report we need to find a way for you to do that. The deadline is Wednesday 18.3.2020 (today).
