2 | 6 Jan | Unit: Keeping Warm, Lesson 1 What do we mean by warm ? Heat energy Thermometers Temperature scales | Discussion on what is heat, and how it manifests as temperature. Heat is a measured in joules, and is distributed through matter and space. We can measure temperature using thermometers. Thermometers have a physical property which varies with temperature eg volume, resistance. Demonstrate bimetallic strip. Most materials expand when heated. Temperature scales and fixed points. | Fill in this form |
3 | 13 Jan | Unit Keeping Warm, Lesson 2 How do we keep warm outside ? Conduction | Analysing coats, gloves and hats and how they hinder heat movement. Heat energy moves from hot to cold (temperature gradient). Conduction is limited by using insulators or poor conductors. Different materials have different conductivity. Convection is limited by trapping gases which will move heat energy away. Trapped air is a poor conductor. 13 | 23 Mar | Home learning work |
By the end of this lesson you will be able to:Task to check your understanding -
this is due before the start of your next lesson
You will need your notebooks.
Click on this link for the tutorial video. sorry about the size of the screen.
Video on colour and light Second tutorial video
14 | 30 Mar | Home learning work |
Refraction - taittuminen
By the end of this lesson you should be able to:
You will need your notebooks - during the videos I will tell you what the most important parts are to
help you take notes.
Click on this link for the tutorial video.
Total internal reflection video (Quantum Boffin) Optical Fibres (Physics Demos) Dispersion of light and colour video (Manocha Academy) | Task to check your understanding - this is due before the start of your next lesson |
15 | 6 April | Home learning work |
(less than 2 minutes) which explains one natural phenomena of light that you have met during these lessons e.g. why the sky is blue, what a solar halo is, how a rainbow forms. It should show the physics involved, and your of it. You can use things you actually see at the time or images online. Please upload the video to Teams or email it to me.
16 | 13 April |
Let's start with a Teams call at the start,
In week 17 you will have a test. Sorry. Has to be done.
Here is a list of the topics covered and some information.
Here is a page of tips for studying for open note tests. The 'study with a friend' s
uggestion still works - just do it virtually !
So in the lesson, you can ask questions about the physics you have studied and
we can use it as a revision. The homework will be to study for the test - there is no form to complete and evidence of your attendance of the lesson just comes from the Teams meeting.
17 | 20 April | Test | ||
18 | 27 April | Home learning work |
After the Teams Live meeting, please watch this tutorial video on Wave properties
It's about 35 minutes so have a break in it and remember to stretch.
This short clip should help you understand too: Transverse or longitudinal waves video
This is the site of the excellent simulations if you want to have a hunt around for more.
|
Then do the lesson task, which is due in next week just before you lesson.
|
19 | 4May | Home learning work |
We'll start with a Teams meeting and then in today's lesson you'll look at sound.
By the end of the lesson you should be able to:
Sound part 1 17 mins
Sound part 2 13 mins
| And the learning check task is here. This is due for the start of your lesson next week. |
20 | 11 May | Back to school ! | We will go through the test, and the investigations. Breaking a glass through resonance Tacoma bridge Resonance on a rope bridge
21 | 18 May | Human ear |
